But rugged Smartphone’s are coming back in the market and Sony is one of the most important players to do that. One of the latest handsets launched by Sony which has got the rugged feel is the Sony Xperia acro S.
Design and Build:
The design of this Smartphone is similar to any other member of the Xperia family. The angular curvy edges can be also found in this handset. On the top Sony logo is painted. This Smartphone’s lacks a transparent strip but it gives this phone a new refreshing look. The built quality is very good but the only problem with the design is its thickness which is not good for a high-end handset. Below the capacitive screen users will find three distinct capacitive keys which but it requires little bit of pressure. On top of the handset three ports are provided which are microUSB, 3.5mm audio jack and microHDMI which are covered to protect from water and dust. On the left edge, microSD and microSIM card slot are provided. On the right edge, power button, dedicated camera button and volume rocker is given.
Display:
The size of the capacitive touch screen is around 4.3 inches and provides 1280×720 pixels resolution. 10 fingers multi-touch feature is provided which is very good. Since this is argued phone it is dust and water resistant and is certified by IP57. There are few parameters with respect to the water proof feature which is it can withstand up to 1meter depth and for 30 minutes. The screen is protected with scratch resistant shatter proof glass. The display is terrific as it uses Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine.

Sony Xperia acro S uses Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The internal memory is of 16GB but only 11GB can be used. The support for external memory is of 32GB which is good enough for everyday use. The primary camera is of 12MP and is of 4000×3000 pixels. With the help of video stabilizer and continuous autofocus 1080p videos can be captured at 30fps. The secondary camera is of 1.3Mp and is able to capture 720p videos at 30fps.
Performance:
Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset is used in Sony Xperia acro S with Dual-core 1.5GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. Adreno 220 is used for GPU. Unlike many other current Smartphone’s which offers quad-core processor this Smartphone is not that slow as it may seem. It is good enough for watching high-definition videos and heavy graphical games. 1910 mAh battery can give around 290 hours of stand-by time in 2G and 310 on 3G networks. The major problem with the battery is that it can be accessed by users, so replacing it is not an option.
